Case Study

Pr
oject: Iznik Chimney
Client: Victoria & Albert Museum

We were commissioned to remove, conserve and remount the Iznik ceramic tiled fireplace situated in the corridor adjacent to Gallery 33. The fireplace was to form part of a touring exhibition of Islamic artefacts, so it was essential to design and construct a lightweight, demountable structure to support the exhibit. Bancroft Villa 4th Century Roman Pavement

Heritage Tile conservation was commissioned by Buckinghamshire County Council (Milton Keynes Archiology Unit) to mount the pavement for display purposes. It is currently displayed on the wall of the pedestrian arcade on the east side of Queens Court Shopping Centre, Milton Keynes.

One of four pavements, this high quality mosaic was found in 1978 during excavation of the Roman Villa at Bancroft, Milton Keynes. It formed the floor of a small room adjacent to the principal bath suite. The design, suggests that it was laid by craftsmen from Corinium (Cirencester, Gloucs) circa AD 330.
